ADVENTURES IN LUISIANA: HULUGAN FALLS & MORE Befo ADVENTURES IN LUISIANA: HULUGAN FALLS & MORE

Before pandemic hit us, we saw the rise of the town of Luisina in the eastern part of Laguna. From being a sleepy town, it became an instant adventure destination with the opening of its once hidden spots to the public.

Luisiana became a sensation as the internet was abuzz with images and videos of the towering Hulugan Falls. Soon after, other waterfalls of the town were also revealed to the public including Hidden Falls, Talay Falls and Aliw Falls. And the once quiet town was never the same again.

More and more people flock to Luisiana to visit its attractions specially on weekends. Needless to say, it became a major tourist destination and the crowd it drew made me shy away from it. There were times in the past that I was so tempted to check out Hulugan Falls, but I resisted to join the bandwagon. I resisted although I know that our paths will inevitably meet someday when all the hype dies down.

Fast forward to the new normal, the inevitable finally happened. A day trip to Luisiana made me understand why it became an instant hit. I was proven wrong, all the fuzz and buzz about Hulugan Falls are not just hype.

Going There:

You can do it on a DIY, drive all the way there and park at the designated parking area or just hop on a bus to Sta. Cruz, Laguna, transfer to jeepney to Lucban and ask to be dropped off at Hulugan Falls. Guides are readily available in the registration area. Best to visit on weekdays!

Waterfalls to Visit in Luisiana:
- Hulugan Galls
- Hidden Falls
- Talay Falls
- Aliw Falls
- Malaog Falls
- Bumbungan Falls

CEBU! CEBU! There’s something about you that be CEBU! CEBU!

There’s something about you that beckons!

Majestic waterfalls, gorgeous beaches, panoramic mountains, vivid dive sites, exquisite food, rich culture and amazing people! Cebu has it all!

The island province serving as regional hub is a melting pot of diversity, a beautiful confluence of modernity and heritage. The 300-year rule of Spaniards in the Philippines influence the province’s way of life. And mixed with the local culture resulted to a beautiful subculture that is uniquely Cebuano.

Tulad ng influence ng mga Spaniards sa Beef Caldereta, one of Kuya J’s bestsellers that now comes in Solo and Single servings. Never miss this slowly simmered pot roast beef in cheesy tomato sauce, for sure babalik-balikan mo kung paano mo binabalik-balikan ang Cebu!

May Kuya J sa Cebu! Tara na at mag-Beef Caldereta sa Kuya J Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, SM Seaside at SM Consolacion.

MOUNT TALAMITAM | NASUGBU, BATANGAS Glad to be ba MOUNT TALAMITAM | NASUGBU, BATANGAS

Glad to be back in Mt. Talamitam!

At 630 meters above sea level, Mt. Talamitam is one of the twin mountains of Barangay Aga in Nasugbu, Batangas. A relatively easy hike that provides unobstructed view at the summit of the neighboring mountains of Batangas, Laguna, Cavite and Quezon, and even as far as Bataan and Mindoro in the horizon.

Mt. Talamitam features forest trail, grassland plateau and steep bush trail to its flat summit.

On rainy days, the mountain is verdant and the assault to the summit can be slippery. During dry season, the mountain turns brown and dry making the trek physically exhausting.

The forest trail starts at Sitio Bayabasan which leads to a gradually ascending grassland plateau serving as base of its peak. From there, you can choose the shorter yet harder route with steep ascent
or the longer route with slightly tolerable inclination going up. Both routes takes 15 to 30 minutes to the summit.

Merrell made this comeback possible with my new Moab 3!

For over a decade, the Merrell Moab has been the choice of hikers when a choice needs to be made, making it the bestselling hiker in the world. Famous for its out-of-the-box comfort, durability and all-purpose versatility, its predecessors have enabled 25 million people to step further outdoors.

Merrell Moab 3 features a new more supportive insole, a softer more cushioned midsole, a grippier Vibram outsole, and partially recycled fabrics.

Moab 1 and 2 were with me in my treks in the various peaks of the Philippines, Nepal, Japan, Peru, Ecuador and Moab, Utah itself. Moab 3 will surely bring me to more heights and places!

Can’t wait!
