Pagudpud

Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte on the northern shore of the main island of Luzon, Philippines is the place to be if you love the beach minus the crowd. Its white sand, pristine beaches and crystal blue waters are the reasons for tagging this place as “Boracay” of the north. It is said to have the longest contiguous white sand with mighty waves and strong winds in the Philippines, making it another haven for surfers.

But Pagudpud is not only about the beach, this coastal town, which was formerly a part of its neighboring town of Bangui, greets its visitors with its beautiful sceneries and serene atmosphere, thus slowly making its own niche in the tourism map of the Philippines. Capones Island

Four kilometers off Barangay Pundaquit, Zambales in the main island of Luzon, Philippines is the Capones Island or “Isla de Gran Capon” during the Spanish era. It is a two kilometer long bone-shaped island surrounded by white sand and rocky shores.

This island can boast of having an average waves ideal for beginner surfers; white sand beaches conducive for overnight camping, day picnic and swimming; turquoise water and rich marine life that is great for diving and snorkeling.

There are no commercial establishments on the island and the only structure there (aside from an unfinished building) is an old Spanish lighthouse (Faro de Punta Capones) that was built in 1890 to guide ships entering and leaving the bays of Manila and Subic, and to warn passing ships of the dangers of rocky shores around the island. The solar-powered lighthouse is Capones best kept secret, with its original brick house structure still in place, though ragged and neglected, but still draw a dramatic picture.

Close to Capones Island is the Camara Island, which is virtually two islands connected by a sandbar.

Camiguin Island

Nested in the northern Mindanao, Philippines, is a pear-shaped volcanic island of Camiguin, aptly called as the “Island Born of Fire”. It is roughly 100 kilometers north of Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental.

It can be considered as the Hawaii of the South East Asia as this island was created by volcanic eruptions and land movements. It has a total of seven volcanoes, one of which is the active Mount Hibok-Hibok that last erupted in 1953. Having been blessed by natural wonders and historical treasures, the island is indeed a paradise.

Among the most famous landmarks of Camiguin is an uninhabited white island that is around two kilometers off the shore of Agoho. It is actually a sandbar that offers a picturesque view of Mt. Hibok-Hibok. This sandbar submerges substantially during high tides.

Boracay Island

On its very first travel post, Lakwatsero will feature the world famous Boracay Beach.

Voted as among the best beach in the world, the island paradise of Boracay is located in central Philippines. It is a 7km long island with about 3.5km stretch of white beach, just 2km north off the island of Panay.

Most people say that no other beach in the world can surpass or even match its white and powdery sand, thus making it famous worldwide. Way back 1980’s, Boracay was still a deserted beach without commercial establishments and electricity. Two decades past, the island rapidly evolved to become one of prime tourist destinations of the Philippines with the presence of numerous business establishments and modern infrastructures.
