Travel Guide: Pagudpud

Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte on the northern shore of the main island of Luzon, Philippines is the place to be if you love the beach minus the crowd. Its white sand, pristine beaches and crystal blue waters are the reasons for tagging this place as “Boracay” of the north. It is said to have the longest contiguous white sand with mighty waves and strong winds in the Philippines, making it another haven for surfers.

But Pagudpud is not only about the beach, this coastal town, which was formerly a part of its neighboring town of Bangui, greets its visitors with its beautiful sceneries and serene atmosphere, thus slowly making its own niche in the tourism map of the Philippines. Stop in Patapat Viaduct, trek to Kabigan Falls, swim in Blue Lagoon, surf the waves, watch the picturesque sunset and experience the hospitality of its people.

Truly, Pagudpud promises everyone an unforgettable experience in this secluded paradise.

How to Get There:

By Land

Going to Pagudpud from Manila is an 10 hour bus ride. Florida Bus Line (Contact No: 731-4473, 781-5894) has a direct trip to Pagudpud daily for P500.00 (~$12), its terminal is in Sampaloc, Manila. Partas (Contact No: 725-1740, 725-1256, 725-7303, 724-9820), Baliwag (Contact No: 524-7111, 525-1067, 525-3064, 525-6769, 525-2338, 525-2294), Fariñas (Contact No: 743-8582) and other bus companies offer Manila-Laoag trips. From Laoag, it is a two hour jeepney/bus ride to Pagudpud.

If you’re coming from Tuguegarao, GMW Liner and Florida Liner buses bound to Laoag, Vigan or Abra pass through Pagudpud, fare is not more than P250.00.

By Air

Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific fly to Laoag from Manila, travel time is an hour more or less. From Laoag, jeepney and buses bound to Cagayan pass through Pagudpud.

Where to Stay:

Inexpensive resorts are located along the shores of Pagudpud, they offer cottage rental for as low as P500.00 (~$12.50) or even cheaper. But Lakwatsero recommends Saud Beach. If you are staying in Saud, try Polaris Beach Resort, it is in the same shoreline as the famous Saud Beach Resort but the rates are cheaper and the staffs are warm and hospitable. Hotel Accommodation at Polaris can go for as low as P1000.00/room during off peak, good for three to four persons. Contact number is 09193078803 (Mean Santos)/09202396138 (Steven Santos).

Northridge Resort also in Saud has good reviews, contact number is 0920-2205089 (Tessie).

Transient houses are also available in Saud. Try Henry Udon (09202859087), his family owns a house near Polaris.

To go to Saud Beach, go to Baduang Market then take a Traysi to Saud.

Here is the list of the activities you can do to appreciate Pagudpud.

  • Swim and surf in the breathtaking Saud Beach
  • Traysi tour of Pagudpud for P600.00
  • Thirty minutes trek to majestic Kabigan Falls

Depends actually on your itinerary, but you can survive for a 3d/2n in Pagudpud for a rough estimate of P4000.00 per person

Ask ko lang po kung rainy days n din sa pagudpud?? kasi punta po kami dyan sa 22-24 May, atsaka ano po ba mas ok at budget wise na resort, Villa del Mar o Polaris o Apo Idon??

The sun is still up, and the last breath of summer is still around the corner. Just keep posted of the latest weather bullettin, and pray that no typhoon during that time. Haven’t been to Villa del Mar and Apo Idon, but I’ve been to Polaris and I do recommend this resort. :)

Hi, thanks for the response..need anybody’s help please!! we are going to vigan/pagudpud this june via plane..so airport namin is sa laoag.i just realized now that laoag is in between vigan and pagudpud. so here’s our itinerary: laoag-vigan-pagudpud.:)arrival time in laoag is at 7pm. how long will it take us to go to vigan? are there buses/jeep available sa time na yun and if you know, how much? I have read in the reviews above that there are some buses going to Pagudpud from Vigan. Gano po kahaba ang byahe? we are on a 3d/2n vacation..just want to maximize my trip! pls pls help super thanks tlga!!

…u know wat? i’ve been reading this blog paulit-ulit na..i wish i could create my own blog site like this..:)

hehehe! thanks nette! Anyway, Laoag to Vigan is a 2-hour drive, Vigan to Pagudpud is approximately 4 hours. Public transpo are limited, especially at night. If you arrive Laoag at 7PM, for sure you will be starting your tour the next day.

  16. Lai says:

Hi, Me and my friend is planning to be in Pagudpud maybe mid month of May. We’re going ther by land.We will leave Manila by friday till sunday cguro kami dun. As per review above maybe we try to contact Polaris for possible rooms there. But our problem is what will be our itirenary during our stay? Can you help us? And also is there available persons who can help us get to the best spots in pagudpud to compensate our stay there? and how much rate they offer?
    Please help us..Thanks

Hi Lai, for accomodation, contact Polaris or Northridge Resort ASAP. Peak season ang May so you better reserve your rooms ASAP. Assuming you leave Manila by Friday, I assume Saturday and Sunday na lang talaga ang time nyo for tour. You can include the following in your itinerary: Kabigan Falls, Blue Lagoon, Bantay Abot Cave, Patapat Viaduct, Bangui Windmills, Bojeador Lighthouse, Laoag and Malacanang of the North, you may also add Paoay Church if time still perimts. You don’t need a guide, just ask the driver (of trike/van/jeepney that you will be renting) to take you to those places in two days, they know how to budget and maximize the time.

  17. mitch says:

    thank you!

  18. ghevo says:

Both resorts are situated in Saud, so we are comparing apple-to-apple, both have good reviews and cheaper price. It just happened that Northridge’s offer this time beats Polaris’. I haven’t been to Northridge actually but with the good reviews, I might try their service. I read somewhere that Northridge sometimes lend their open type owner jeep for about P1,000 per day. Polaris on the other hand has trike drivers they recommend.

  19. ghevo says:

GUYS patulong naman…. hindi kasi ako makapagdecide… saan ba maganda and wise mag stay. Sa NORTHRIDGE ba na nag ooffer ng 1000 per night or sa POLARIS na 1500 per night…. hindi ako makapagdecide.. gusto ko kasi comfortable. and sulit naman and wise. sana matulungan niyo naman ako. and may ma ooffer ba kayong mag totour sa amin sa pagudpud

  20. ghevo says:

sa mga pupunta ng pagudpud this may ana ay magkitakita tayo. im ghevo 24 m from baguio. May 8 ng umaga hangga may 10 ng umaga kami doon. balak ko pa kasing mag stop over muna sa vigan ng buong araw then biyahe papuntang baguio pag hapon na

    wow! enjoy ilocandia :D
